LARE Frances Edith Abrams Lare, 92, died at Chandler Hall Hospice in Newtown, Pennsylvania on September 12, with family by her side. Fran was born on February 26, 1932, in Vineland, NJ to Anna Bates Hoffman. She was raised in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia and spent summers with her grandmother and uncles in rural New York. After graduation from Kensington Girls High School, she married the love of her life, Nelson Austin Lare, with whom she shared nearly 70 years of marriage. Fran and Nelson lived in Texas and Illinois before returning to Philadelphia. Nelson’s work later brought them to Westfield, NJ and Yardley, PA where Fran has lived since 1968. Nelson passed away in 2020. Fran was devoted to her family, which included 4 children: Douglas (Annette), Nelson, Linda Lansberry (Roger) and Jeanne Mundy (Paul). She delighted in her 11 grandchildren: Brittany Lare (Karl Pietrzak), Molly Chopin Lare, Jacob Lare, Matthew Lare (Lindsey), Nicholas Lare (Casey), Stephen Lansberry, Andrew Lansberry (Laura), Tyler Betz, Harrison Betz (MauraCarr), Elizabeth Betz, and Jessica Betz. She was blessed with 8 great-grandchildren: Atticus, Ethan, Amelia, Connor, Scarlett, Kipton, Ava, and Ella, with 2 more on the way. She loved her many nieces and nephews, always ready to lend an ear and welcome them in her home. Fran said that the best and longest job she ever had was raising her children. It was the most important activity in her life and the one that gave her the most fulfillment. She also took pride in her work outside the home at various banks, as a shopkeeper in Yardley, and as the Overseas Representative Coordinator at the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, NJ, where she consulted with people all over the world. Fran’s life was full, with her love of gardening, knitting and crafts of all kinds, reading, traveling, camping, family gatherings, volunteering with scouts, and the life of her Lutheran church. Vivacious and outgoing, Fran made lifelong friends wherever she went. In addition to her immediate family, Fran is survived by a brother, Paul Hoffman (Norma), and several half-siblings. She was predeceased by a sister, Mollie Shaud, brother Robert Abrams, and half-brothers, David and Baker Abrams.
